this is my entry for =knockingghosts's monster creation contest >>> [link]
alright, before i get to gaias, i'll just say they were inspired by jackalope and ghibli movies. and though gaia don't seem very ferocious or monster-esque, they actually can be. i spent basically months nit-picking his design and characteristics and left myself very little time for actually displaying him, which makes me sad, but it's my fault, so i won't complain. he can get very angry and violent, the thing is that he simply must be prompted to act in a such a manner. also,
my artistic ability is poop.

it's thought that gaia was brought into the world via jackalopes drinking from toxic waste spills, but it is uncertain. Gaia roam forests and jungles. they feed on all sorts of plants, moving their diet to consist with what they can reach. Gaia is born at about two feet tall, and gains about ten feet in height each year. so far it's seen they don't die of old age, and continue growing despite how old they may be. they communicate with one another with a series of high pitched chirps, and tend to sing when looking for others of their kind in the woods. generally they are a calm creature, with eye color that adapts with their moods. when enraged or angered, their normal grass green eyes turn to a fire engine red, or when saddened, to a sapphire blue. their fur resembles that of a kitten in texture and length. they bare three long claws on all four paws, which they tend to use for scratching and climbing while they are short. while still small enough to be held by the branches of trees, gaia take home in nests they build way up high off the jungle or forests floor to avoid nuisances such as bugs. these nests are made of sturdy twigs on the outside with leaf padding on the inside for comfort. when they're too big to be held up by the branches, they sleep in small clearings. gaia are constantly travelling aimlessly, but prefer cooler climates due to their thick fur, and tend to stay to the northern regions.

Aw, it is cute.
I don't think your abilities are bad! I think it is nice to see something that in genuinely not a roaming mad animal, but something so much more peaceful in it's own way. Reminds me of a Miyazaki creature.
